Cocoknits in Salcombe, Devon, UK
Friday 12-Saturday 20 September 2025 (8 nights/9 days)
Come away with us on our 8 night/9 day knitting adventure to Devon which includes a 7 night stay in a glamorous seaside property in Salcombe and one night in the Georgian spa city of Bath.
We meet in Bath (an easy 75 mins by train from London) and travel by coach to the Natural Fibre Co, experts in fibre processing and the only British company that spins both wool and worsted yarns. After a fascinating mill tour where you’ll see how raw fleeces are turned into yarn, we’ll go next door to Blacker Yarns where you’ll find a wide selection of yarns including a special edition range from sheep raised in Cornwall. Cocoknits founder Julie Weisenberger and expert knitter Tracy Russell will be on hand to advise and guide you on the best yarn to purchase for your Cocoknits sweater project.
From Blacker Yarns we travel by coach to our home for the week: The Moult, an iconic pink house perched on a clifftop overlooking South Sands bay and beyond to Salcombe, a pretty town on the banks of the Kingsbridge estuary and a haven for sailors. The Moult was the former home of the Earl of Devon and it retains a sense of both grandeur and glamour - an episode of TV series Poirot was filmed here. With thirteen gorgeous bedrooms, many with views out to sea, the three sitting rooms have comfortable sofas where you can sit, knit and chat or step through the French windows onto a large terrace to enjoy a magnificent view beyond the property’s 22 metre heated swimming pool to Fort Charles in the distance.
You’ll choose your Cocoknits pattern in advance from your copy of the Cocoknits Sweater Workshop or from their website as a downloadable pdf. With 5 days’ full-time tuition from Julie and Tracy included in the retreat you’ll have time to make real progress on your knitting project. You’ll soon see the benefits of the top-down seamless knitting method pioneered by Julie and appreciate the ease with which you can adapt your pattern for a perfect fit.
Fun excursions planned during the week include lunch at the award-winning Winking Prawn, a visit to Overbeck’s, a tropical garden bursting with colour and exotic plants and a day trip to Salcombe by sea tractor and ferry. Soak up Salcombe’s relaxed holiday atmosphere, explore its independent shops, harbour, maritime museum and famous gin distillery where you can have a tasting or even join a workshop. Meanwhile back at the Moult there’ll be evening film screenings in the home cinema plus a talk and slideshow from the lone kayaker, Rupert Kirkwood who has paddled every inch of the coast of southwest England observing and photographing the exceptional wildlife.
On day eight of the retreat we check out of the Moult and head by coach to Bath, stopping on the way at Fernhill Farm, a holistic eco farm in the Mendip hills where owners Jen and Andy will demonstrate blade shearing and wool handling in their shearing shed. We arrive mid afternoon in Bath in plenty of time to check into Hotel Indigo a centrally located hotel in a historic Georgian terrace. After breakfast the next day you’ll be free to tour this elegant city on foot. Visit the Holbourne Museum, an exquisite pillared building which stars as Lady Danbury’s estate in Bridgeton and No 1 Royal Crescent, the magnificently restored town house museum where you can explore fashionable life in the 18th century or visit the Roman Baths, once the site of one of the great religious spas of the ancient world. Stay on in Bath for a few days or leave at your leisure.

“I really loved this retreat. It was exactly what I needed to decompress and relax. I've wanted to learn the Cocoknits method for several years. This was such a special group of interesting women. I would go on another retreat in a heartbeat.!”
